Book(s) of the week featuring pirate grannies

Both these books were enjoyable to share with Luath but I wouldn’t choose to purchase and add to our collection.

Pirate Gran  by Geraldine Durrant illustrated by Rose Forshall
This is the second book that my mum received from my nephew (brother) last Christmas and Luath’s second choice when requesting a book while at my parents (the first being My Granny went to Market - previous book of the week).  This picture books introduces you to a normal (!) gran, (she keeps a crocodile under her bed) who has been a pirate since she was a young girl.  You learn all about her swashbuckling adventures and how she came to settle into normal live.  Very funny.

We had this book out of the library and so it was fun when we got home to read and compare the grannies from the tow stories (although it is difficult for Luath to do this without the other book present).  Another “normal” granny who happens to also be a pirate.  In a rhyming text you learn about her adventures at sea.
My granny is a pirate!
She's sailed the seven seas.
She captured many pirate ships
But was always home for tea.   (Luath is 23 months)
