Places to go – Balloch Castle Country Park

When I was a student in Glasgow we sometimes took the train out to Balloch and spent time in the country park, and have many happy memories.  Recently we stopped off for a picnic lunch just before a heavy shower.  Most people headed away but we hid in the car.  Our hunch that the rain would pass over was correct and we were rewarded with sunshine.
The castle is closed except for toilets.  Luath really wanted to go inside and was very disappointed that she couldn’t.

There are lots of various paths.  One led to a walled garden.

Luath loves pretending to be a pirate and we came across some wild raspberry treasure.  Luath could have stayed there all afternoon happily munching.

There are two play parks by the shore, split by age.  Luath especially enjoyed the  trampolines in the “big” kids area.

There is plenty open green space for running.  The park covers 200 acres.

And of course the stunning scenery as the park is on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond.
     
You can reach here by bus or train for Glasgow very easily and quickly.  It is then a short walk to the park.  We drove and there was plenty of parking spaces.  There are places to eat or buy picnic supplies in Balloch.  Entry is free.
