This summer daddy has seven weeks holidays and as the activities we attend only run during term time we will have lots of free time. I thought I would make an inspiration list for times we were looking for something to do. I have tried to think of summery activities. Many of them we will likely do anyway and we are not looking to tick them all off by the end of summer as there is a lot.
Adventures (home or away)
- watch a steam train
- be a pirate including go on a treasure hunt
- scavenger hunts – colours/bugs/objects
- indoor camp with pretend campfire
- go on some new local walks
- pretend train and airplane journey
Nature
- look for butterflies (maybe go to butterfly reserve)
- explore with magnifying glass
- walk through wildflower meadow and sew seeds from shoes
- Weather watching
Play (outdoor)
Garden
- mudpie kitchen
- walk outdoors barefoot
- obstacle course
- pitch tent in garden or go for overnight camp
Water
- paddle (bare feet or waders)
- freeze toys in ice to excavate
- bandy net fun
- sponge balls
- washing toys/clothes/car
- homemade bottle sprinkler
- have a bath outdoors
- paddle in sea/loch
- build a big sandcastle
- footprints in the sand and photograph all our footprints together
Play (indoor )
- have a puppet show
- flashlight (soft) animal spotting
- make and play crazy golf holes
- make a toy parachute
- party games – musical statues/what’s in the bag
- try some different types of dancing
- yoga
Read
- find and read some summer stories
- try a chapter book
- a story time walk
- Learn a new song
Art/craft
- work on our version of a magic tree
- spray paint art (or just with water)
- shell mosaic
- paint with feet
- make life size picture by drawing around body (or with chalk outdoors)
- make waterproof puppets (rubber gloves) for bath time
Food and drink
- taste testing game
- frozen grape lollies
- make frozen lollies (and eat)
- make lemonade
- have a BBQ
