Indoor Play - Fun with a banana box

Our nearest supermarket leaves out cardboard boxes than were used to transport bananas for customers to use  I find them great for storing things and they are also to use in the garden.  I had carried some clothes to the washing machine in the base of a box (our laundry basket has been binned). Luath spied it and immediately started playing with it.  Climbing onto it (they are very sturdy), banging it like a drum and then getting stuck in it.

Next she dragged it into the living room and started to play peepo through the big hole in the bottom.  I joined in and we had a good giggle.

I then picked up her doll and used her to play peepo.  Varying the body part and which hole the doll would appear from. She found when the dolls foot was stuck out hilarious. We then did the same game with a soft toy dog.  This would be a fun guessing game when Luath is a little older - popping a part of one of her toys (or an object) and she guesses who/what it is.
not easy to see, but her dolls foot is peeping

Luath then picked up some of her little characters and placed them on the box.  She would then either place them back in their bag, swipe them all off or post them through a hole.  It was interesting to watch her figure out that they couldn't fit through the round holes as they were all too big.

I then made up a game of placing a character on the box, banging the top of the box and the vibrations would make the character move towards the main hole and finally fall in.  Luath joined in the banging.  Sometimes they must having been heading too slowly towards the hole as she would help them in with a big swipe.

Finally we brought out some wooden bricks that would fit through the smaller round holes.

We must have played with the box for about 2 hours over the course of one day.  It is so true about not needing to buy toys just give a  kid a cardboard box or two!
