Seeing the Olympic Torch Relay

 The Olympic flame has made it to Scotland for the first time and even more exciting it was passing very near our home.  Sadly the flame was to be taken by vehicle for the part of the route nearest to us.  We were wary of getting caught in traffic, the road is busy enough on a Saturday at this time of year, and there were other big events happening.  There was a mini celebration in our nearest town but we decided to go in the other direction to somewhere quieter. We left early and went for a lovely walk with the dog. Daddy pointed out the house he lived in when he was Luath's age.

We arrived a little early to the torch relay site, but sadly too late to get a free tambourine for Luath however daddy and I got a free fizzy drink.  We had giggle that someone left their dog to look after their drink.

First came quite a few police motorbikes and other emergency vehicles.  Then came a car with the game mascots.

Next came a large vehicle playing music, which got Luath bouncing and clapping.  It had a big screen showing a live feed from where the flame was.  The PA said what a beautiful view, it was great to see the sun and 5 minutes until the flame reached us.

Next game the PR vehicles, with people dancing, clapping, music and handing out a few promo beaters, streamers and flags. 

  

We got a flag.  (rant: I was a bit of an annoyed mummy as they were handing things to people who already had, you can only beat or wave one thing, and giving every member of the same family the same thing, and I had to make an effort to get Luath a flag and  there was nobody within 5 feet either way of us, sorry rant over)

A few minutes later more motorbike police arrived

 Then the bus, which stopped for the torch relay team to get out and set up.  The torch bearer then ran past at quite a speed, but it was exciting to see.  Daddy was taking a video on our camera so we didn't get any pictures, however the BBC had one and we are actually in it towards the back.  My mum had been watching the live feed and she thinks she saw us on the telly.

It was a fun experience for us all.  Luath obviously didn't really know what was happening, but she loved all the vehicles, the noise, the people, the music, waving her flag and especially joining in the clapping.  We are looking forward to our Olympic football day out.

We are going to put the commemorative fizzy drink bottle and the flag in Luath's memory box.
