Toddler Kitchen – Valentine Cookies

toddler kitchen

We decided to bake daddy some Valentine cookies.  I have seen a few images of thumbprint heart cookies and thought we would make some. I took the recipe from allrecipe.com

Strawberry Thumbprint Cookies
250g plain flour – you need much more than this, the dough is too sticky otherwise.
225g unsalted butter, softened
120g icing sugar – we used caster sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
strawberry jam – or whatever flavour you wish
Method Mix all ingreds except jam Shape dough with your hands into small balls and place two balls next to each other on greased baking trays. Press your thumb into both balls, in the middle and then shape into a heart.

Fill each hole with jam. You can tell this was true toddler baking as the hearts are quite misshaped!  We also made a few biscuits using a heart shaped cookie cutter.

Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 12 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly browned. Our hearts became even more misshaped once baked but they were very yummy.

I had added some hot pink food colouring to the dough in hope the cookies would have a slight colour to them on the inside but you couldn’t make the colour out.
Luath drew some pink glitter stripes on one of the heart cookie cutter shaped biscuits and gave it to daddy when he came home from work.
(Luath is 24 months)
